To be a state certified firefighter, a person must complete a Level II 240 Hr. training course provided by the Ohio State Fire Academy. We are proud to say that the Gallipolis Fire Department currently has 9 members that are trained at a Level II, 1 member trained at a Level I, and 20 members trained at a basic Level A. Currently, the department has 2 certified fire investigators, 3 certified inspectors, 1 certified instructor, and 1 paramedic. At least once a month, the department will gather as a group and train on various fire situations or topics. Each member is required by the State of Ohio to complete 12 hours annually of continual fire education.

The Gallipolis Fire Department actively provides education to the local businesses and community. Fire Safety and Fire Extinguisher classes are provided on request. These classes can be provided at station 1 located at 2018 Chestnut Street or an instructor can come to your facility. During the 2nd week in October, the Gallipolis Fire Department participated in the National Fire Prevention Week. The department attends the local schools and day care to teach fire safety and fire prevention. The department will teach approximately 1200 kids a year, mostly kindergarten through 3rd grade students. Also during this week, station tours and classes are held at station 1 for persons of all ages. Each student is given materials that stress the importance of fire safety and fire prevention
